MTT - The Meaning-Text Theory

Third International Conference on Meaning Text Theory (MTT)
May 21 - 24, 2007, Klagenfurt, Austria

The Meaning Text Theory is a lexicon-centered dependency theory for the description of language with a holistic model that incorporates semantics, syntax, morphology and lexis as well as the information (= communicative) structure. MTT has extensively been developed over the last four decades with respect to its coverage of linguistic phenomena and application in a variety of research fields - among them natural language processing (in particular natural language text generation) and second language learning/teaching. After MTT '03 in Paris and MTT '05 in Moscow, this conference is the third in a successful series that aims at bringing together researchers working on MTT, other dependency-based linguistic theories and computational applications drawing upon dependency theories. The special goal of this conference is to open MTT more to researchers working in related frameworks. A social program will be offered before the main conference. After the main conference, a 1/2 day tutorial on natural language generation in the framework of MTT is planned.

CONFERENCE FEES

Regular participants: full fee 120 €

or inscription fee per day: 30€

East European Participants: full fee 70 €

or inscription fee per day: 20€

Students: full fee 50 €

or inscription fee per day: 15€

REGISTRATION

Registration will be exclusively via the conference website.

All participants, irrespective of category or mode of payment, are requested to register in order to qualify for participation and the receipt of conference documents.

The following two steps are mandatory for full registration of regular attendees:
1. Electronic registration using our registration page .
2. Payment of the conference fee at registration desk on arrival in Klagenfurt.

Electronic registration must be completed by May 6, 2007 for those who wish having their names included in conference documents.

To be entitled to student rates the participant must present a student identity card valid on May 21, 2007 at the conference desk in Klagenfurt.

The conference fee covers:
* Participation in the scientific programme
* Conference materials
* Proceedings (Wiener Slawistischer Almanach, Special volume, with ISBN number)
* Break refreshments

INFORMATION for persons who need AUSTRIAN VISA:

The MTT-2007 organisation chair asks all persons who need Austrian visa to visit the conference to supply as soon as possible - and independently from the notification of acceptance of their papers - the following information:

3) Full address for delivery of the invitation (in Latin letters)

4) Austrian authority (consulate) where the visa application will be handed in.

Details how to obtain visa in a convenient way with the support of the organisation chair will be communicated later depending on the location of the Austrian authority (consulate).

TRAVEL information for persons coming to Klagenfurt via Vienna

Participants can come to Klagenfurt by train, departing from Vienna South Station (Wien Südbahnhof) every second hour, the train trip taking about 4 hours (see www.oebb.at). A one-way individual ticket costs 43.50 Euro, in groups of 6 persons or more, the one-way fare per person is 26.50 Euro. All train tickets can be bought at the train station right before departure (no preliminary reservation necessary). The same regime is possible for departure by train from Klagenfurt after the conference.
In Klagenfurt, the train station is about 6 kilometers from the University, participants are advised to take a taxi (for about 10 Euro).

SOCIAL EVENTS

The organisation chair announces the following social events and asks all interested persons to register on the registration page.

S1: Get together on Sunday, May 20, 7:00 to 10:00 PM at Klagenfurt University (including registration, free refreshments and peasant style sandwiches)

S2: Guided bus excursion on Sunday, May 20, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM from Klagenfurt University to downtown Klagenfurt - Romanesque-Gothic style church Maria Saal - Celtic-Roman style archeological site on Mount Magdalensberg - top of Mount Magdalensberg (with great view and restaurant) - Klagenfurt University

The cost for the bus ride will be within 15 - 20 Euro depending on the size of the bus (lunch to be paid individually)

S3: A conference dinner on Monday, May 21 or Tuesday, May 22 will be announced soon. Registered participants will be contacted on this behalf shortly.

ACCOMODATION

Arrival should be planned not later than Sunday, May 20 in the evening.

Departure should be planned not earlier than Thursday, May 24.

SUBMISSIONS

Submissions are closed.

Here is the call for papers:

We invite submissions on all topics related to MTT and other grammatical and lexical frameworks that share with MTT the fundamental principles such as dependency, the primacy of the lexicon, stratificational nature of the linguistic model, etc.

SUBMISSION FORMAT

Submissions must be in English. They may not exceed 10 pages in length (including all figures, data, notes, and bibliography) using a 12 point font, printed in one column). Please use this word style file or similar styles for LaTeX. Style files for LaTeX, too, will be available for the final version. The submission format must be pdf. Please use the electronic submission web site. No hardcopy or email submissions addressed to the conference organizers will be accepted.
